JOMTIEN, THAILAND – A heavily intoxicated tourist was prevented from riding off on his motorcycle after provoking people on the beach, according to witness reports.
Confrontation on Jomtien beach
In the night leading up to 23 February, a visibly drunk tourist repeatedly provoked passersby on the beach in Jomtien and tried to start arguments. He then staggered to his motorcycle and attempted to start the engine, ignoring his condition and apparently losing control of himself.
Bystanders block the motorcycle
People nearby immediately intervened and physically blocked the man from riding off, protecting other road users from what was described as a potentially deadly danger. Another tourist quickly took out his phone, recognised the seriousness of the situation and dialled the emergency number because, in his view, no one should operate a vehicle in that state.
Police end the attempted ride
In the busy coastal town, officers arrived within minutes and quickly assessed the situation. They separated the angry man from his motorcycle, took his key and placed him in handcuffs, abruptly ending the attempted outing on the back seat of a patrol car.

After brief conversations with eyewitnesses, police secured evidence and confiscated the motorcycle at the beach. The intoxicated man spent the rest of the night in a cell, and observers said the swift intervention by vigilant bystanders and officers likely prevented a serious accident.
