Pedestrian critically hurt in Pattaya crash

50-year-old man was trapped under a car on Sukhumvit Road and rescued in a dramatic evening operation

PATTAYA, THAILAND – A 50-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car on Sukhumvit Road and left critically injured, trapped beneath the vehicle until rescuers freed him.

Severe collision in front of shopping mall

The collision occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on the busy Sukhumvit Road near the turnoff to Sattahip, directly in front of the Dohome shopping center. According to the local Sawang-Boriboon rescue center, the pedestrian was pinned under the car and was already in acute mortal danger when emergency crews arrived on the scene.

Scene findings and vehicle damage

At the site, responders found a white Toyota with Bangkok license plates, its front heavily damaged and its windshield shattered. The driver, Somphop Suwannaphan, 43, waited at the roadside and cooperated with officers, according to police.

Dramatic rescue using forklift

Under the vehicle lay the injured pedestrian, identified as Tayira Ai-saeng, 50, with severely deformed and broken arms and legs and only weak breathing. Rescue workers, assisted by local residents, used a forklift to lift the front of the car, immediately began resuscitation efforts and then transported the man to hospital in critical condition.

Driver’s account of the crash

Somphop told police he had been traveling with his family toward Jomtien Beach and was driving at normal speed in the right lane.

“According to my account, the pedestrian suddenly ran from the roadside onto the roadway, I could no longer brake in time and, when I noticed he was trapped, I immediately called for help.”

said Somphop Suwannaphan, driver.

Police secure evidence

Investigators from Pattaya police documented traces at the scene, took photographs and collected evidence before taking the driver to the station for further questioning. Authorities were reviewing footage from surrounding CCTV cameras to clarify the exact course of the accident and to initiate legal action if any criminal misconduct was established.
