Furor over influencer in Pattaya

Danish-Arab influencer’s insults toward Thai police and locals spark online backlash

PATTAYA, THAILAND – A Danish-Arab social media influencer faced fierce backlash after videos showed him insulting police and speaking disparagingly about Thais in the resort city.

Traffic stop video sparks outrage

In a viral Reddit clip, influencer “Ahmarnioff” (62,100 followers) was seen on a motorcycle in Pattaya, where he had allegedly violated traffic rules. A police officer imposed a fine of 1,000 baht (about 25 euros). Instead of paying, the man brazenly asked to have it reduced to 500 baht.

When this was refused, he lost his temper and hurled insults at the officer in Danish, calling him “the little dog” (“Den lille hund”), and continued with further verbal abuse in Arabic.

Mocking remarks about restaurant dog

A second clip showed the same man in a restaurant, filming a dog belonging to the establishment. He said cynically:

“You are so cute, you are going to be eaten now.”

He then pointed at guests and the kitchen and added:

“You will be grilled up there.”

Online calls for action against influencer

Comment sections were filled with anger. One user wrote:

“I feel sorry for Thailand that he is in your country. If I were there, I would file a criminal complaint.”

Others urged the Thai authorities to act, demanding an entry ban or a flag on his passport. There was also criticism of the broader influencer and vlog culture, which was seen as encouraging increasingly inconsiderate behavior by foreigners in Southeast Asia.

Image damage and possible legal steps

“Ahmarnioff” was described as an influencer of mixed Danish-Arab background whose content usually focused on travel and lifestyle. His conduct in Thailand stood in stark contrast to the hospitality he had received, and the clips could seriously damage his public image.

So far, the Thai authorities had not issued an official statement on the videos, and it remained unclear whether legal consequences would follow.

Growing debate over “quality” tourism

The case was not an isolated incident, as foreign visitors repeatedly caused trouble with disrespectful or illegal behavior. The debate over prioritizing “quality over quantity” in tourism grew louder, with Thailand unwilling to be seen as a destination for such visitors.

The Thai online community expressed solidarity with the police and those insulted, and the online backlash against the influencer was reported to be growing by the hour.

What consequences he could face

If he were reported for insulting public officials, he could face fines or even imprisonment, and expulsion from Thailand was also considered possible. For his influencer career, the clips were seen as a disaster, with brands expected to avoid working with him.

His trip to the “Land of Smiles” could thus have a very bitter ending, as Thai patience was described as exhausted.
