CHACHOENGSAO, THAILAND – Three teenagers were injured, one of them critically, in a night-time hit-and-run crash involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle in Chachoengsao.
Location and time of the collision
The accident occurred on Thursday at around 00.10 a.m. in front of the Por Charoen Farm Co. on the Chachoengsao–Suwinthawong Road. The stretch of road lay in Village 3 of Wang Takhian subdistrict in Mueang district. Emergency services and police were alerted shortly after the collision and found three injured males lying on the roadway when they arrived.
Teenage victims and their journey
The injured were three youths aged 17, 18 and 19 who had been travelling together on one motorcycle. According to responders, they were riding a white Honda Giorno without a license plate. Their destination was their residential area near Wat Ton Tan, only a few kilometres from the crash site.
Limited recollection of the crash
Rescue workers reported that the teenagers could not remember the exact sequence of the collision. They stated that they only regained consciousness after being thrown onto the road. One of the three suffered severe injuries and was unconscious at the scene, while the other two sustained head wounds and abrasions that were not considered life-threatening.
Witness account of suspected pickup
A local resident reported seeing a grey Isuzu pickup shortly before the accident. The vehicle was said to have been heavily accelerated and driving with a loud exhaust.
“The pickup overtook my vehicle, and moments later I saw the motorcycle being hit, with the rider and the bike hurled through the air.”
said the resident, who witnessed the incident.
Damage to the motorcycle
After the collision, the motorcycle slammed into a streetlight pole and was severely damaged, almost folded in on itself. According to emergency personnel, the engine was nearly torn out of its mountings. Debris believed to have come from the pickup was secured at the scene.
Flight from the scene and police probe
The pickup left the accident site immediately after the collision and disappeared into the darkness. Its license plate had not yet been identified. Police stated that existing surveillance cameras along the route were being reviewed in order to identify the vehicle and its driver.
Emergency treatment and hospital care
The unconscious teenager was rushed by rescue workers to Buddhasothorn Hospital, where he received emergency medical treatment. The two other injured youths were initially treated at the scene. They were then transported to a hospital for further examination.
