PATTAYA, THAILAND – A 22-year-old trans woman was seriously injured in a violent incident on Pattaya Beach near Soi 13/1 in the early hours of January 21.
Early-morning confrontation on busy beach
According to city police, the incident occurred at around 1:50 a.m. on the crowded beachfront. Officers were alerted to a violent altercation with injuries and immediately called in rescuers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya rescue foundation. When emergency teams arrived, they found a group of trans women in shock and identified the injured person as Sila, 22, from Khon Kaen province.
Injury caused by broken glass bottle
Sila suffered a deep cut to her right hand caused by a broken glass bottle. Rescue workers provided first aid at the scene before taking her to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. No further details on her condition were released in the immediate aftermath.
Dispute over service fee escalated
Sila told police she had been standing on the beach with friends when a muscular man of unknown nationality approached and asked what they were doing there. She said she explained that they were working and offering escort services. The conversation then turned to possible “entertainment” arrangements, and the man asked about prices for such services.
Sila stated that they failed to reach an agreement on the requested fee, and the man walked away in frustration.
“The man then came back a few moments later,”
said Sila, the 22-year-old victim.
Return with makeshift weapons
On his return, the man allegedly carried a wooden stick about two meters long and tried to chase and attack Sila and her companions. During the confrontation, the suspect reportedly grabbed a glass bottle, smashed it and swung it at Sila. The blow struck her hand and caused the injury before the man fled the scene.
Suspect still at large as police review CCTV
Based on statements from the victim and other witnesses, police broadcast a description of the suspect over the radio and launched an active search for the man. No arrest had been reported by the time of publication. Investigators said they planned to review surveillance cameras in the area to trace the suspect’s escape route and confirm his identity.
“Once he is arrested, further criminal proceedings will be initiated,”
said investigating officers.
Night beach safety under renewed scrutiny
The incident again focused attention on nighttime security along Pattaya Beach, a popular gathering place for tourists and sex workers. Those working on the beach at night face several risks, including sudden violent disputes over prices, difficulty identifying perpetrators among transient visitors and reliance on video surveillance to solve such crimes.
Police stressed that they would continue the investigation in order to locate the suspect and bring him to justice.
