PATTAYA, THAILAND – A 57-year-old German tourist reported a costly herbal supplement scam to local police after paying more than 22,000 baht for products falsely advertised as miracle hair regrowth treatments.
German visitor reported scam to Pattaya police
The 57-year-old German industrial engineer filed a complaint after he said he was deceived into buying overpriced herbal supplements on Beach Road in Pattaya Soi 13/2. Around 00:30 on December 25th, 2025, he reported the alleged fraud to Police Lieutenant Colonel Sutheepan Thapsri at Pattaya City Police Station.
Friendly approach led to high-priced purchase
According to his statement, the man, identified as Yilmaz Yuezbazi, was strolling along the beachfront promenade when a foreign man approached him and started a friendly conversation. The stranger then offered hair nourishment products, claiming the jarred supplements, marketed as a branded dietary supplement, had miraculous powers to regrow hair on completely bald scalps.
Realisation of scam after closer inspection
Enticed by these promises, the victim agreed to purchase two jars for a total of more than 22,000 baht. The seller escorted him to a nearby herbal shop, where the transaction took place. Only later, after examining the goods more carefully, Mr. Yuezbazi concluded that the products did not deliver the advertised effects and were vastly overpriced, leading him to believe he had been scammed and to seek legal action.
Tourists routinely targeted in similar frauds
The Pattaya News reported that such frauds were common in Pattaya’s tourist hotspots. Groups, often made up of foreign nationals, routinely targeted foreign visitors with various herbal remedies and supplements, leading interested tourists to shops where the sales were completed.
Calls for tougher enforcement and tourist protection
In previous cases, several victims were reportedly affected, with some shops returning money after police intervened during investigations. Authorities and concerned parties called for stronger crackdowns by relevant agencies and police to tackle the persistent problem, protect tourists, and prevent further incidents that could damage the resort city’s reputation.
