PATTAYA, THAILAND – A viral video showing dense black exhaust clouds at the entrance to Walking Street led to a police operation and the seizure of a modified pickup truck.

The incident occurred at the entrance to the well‑known Walking Street on Beach Road, one of the busiest nightlife areas in the coastal city. The clip showed a black Isuzu pickup revving its engine hard and emitting massive plumes of black smoke at high speed. Police said more than 100 tourists were present and expressed anger and concern about air quality as the footage spread widely on social media.
Driver reports to Pattaya police
At the start of the week, 32‑year‑old Parinya (surname withheld) voluntarily appeared at Pattaya City Police Station together with the vehicle. He was questioned by Police Lieutenant Colonel Arut Saphanont, deputy head of the investigation division, and Police Lieutenant Colonel Amorntep Mai, head of the traffic division.
Technical faults and vehicle modifications
Parinya told officers that a faulty fuel injector had caused the heavy smoke. The pickup had been modified with tuned injectors, a turbocharger and adjusted engine management. He said he had to keep revving the engine to prevent it from stalling.
“I was returning from errands in Sattahip district and had stopped with a friend in Soi 6 on Beach Road,”

“Later that night, as I was driving out, the scene that was filmed occurred. I did not deliberately rev the engine to impress or disturb others, and I did not intentionally cause the smoke.”

Alleged traffic violations and inspections
Police initially accused the man of violating the Land Traffic Act and related regulations. The pickup was seized and was to be inspected by competent technical agencies. Planned checks included measurements of exhaust emissions and smoke density, as well as noise levels from the tuned engine.
Possible penalties for the owner
Based on the test results, authorities were expected to decide on further legal steps. According to police, Parinya faced potential fines and additional conditions for the vehicle. These measures could include requirements to bring the pickup into compliance with relevant emission and noise standards.
Crackdown on loud and dirty modified vehicles
Authorities in Pattaya said they had intensified action against modified vehicles that exceed emission and noise limits, particularly in heavily visited tourist zones such as Walking Street. Police stated that the goal was to reduce pollution from exhaust and noise in nightlife districts and improve the experience for visitors and residents. Vehicles with conspicuous modifications were increasingly becoming a focus of traffic checks.
