SRI RACHA, THAILAND – Two young women were killed early Monday morning when their motorbike crashed into the rear of a parked trailer truck in Sri Racha.
Fatal collision outside university at dawn
The crash occurred at around 6:30 a.m. on 15 December 2025 on a road directly in front of a well-known university in Sri Racha, according to police. Rescue workers from the Sawang Prateep Sri Racha Rescue Foundation, medical staff from Laem Chabang Hospital and officers from Laem Chabang Police Station were dispatched to a reported collision between a motorcycle and a trailer truck with two people critically injured.
Motorbike wrecked, victims found without helmets
At the scene, responders found an empty trailer truck parked at the roadside, with clear impact marks on the rear of the trailer. Nearby, an overturned green Yamaha Grand Filano motorbike lay with its front section completely destroyed, and rescue personnel said the two young women had sustained massive head and facial injuries and were not wearing helmets.
The emergency doctors were only able to confirm that both women had died at the scene.
One victim identified as tourism student
One of the deceased was identified as 20-year-old Umaporn Nom from Khlong Yai district in Trat province. She was a tourism student enrolled in an advanced vocational program at Trat Technical College.
The second woman could not initially be identified because she was carrying no identification documents. However, investigators found a stamp from a nightclub in South Pattaya on her right arm, indicating she had visited the local nightlife there earlier.
Active GPS points to possible distraction
Officers recovered a mobile phone at the crash site on which GPS navigation towards Pattaya was actively running at the time of the accident. Investigators believed the two women had been on their way to a destination in Pattaya after a night out and may have been distracted by looking at the navigation device.
High speed was also considered a likely factor, as the force of the impact on both the motorcycle and the rear of the trailer was described as substantial.
Truck driver recalls sudden noise
The 42-year-old truck driver, Piyapong Duangyot, told police he had earlier delivered cargo to a port and then parked the truck at the roadside to take a break and wait for his next job.
“I heard a very loud impact and immediately ran outside. Then I saw the two women lying injured on the sidewalk,”
said Piyapong, the truck driver. He added that the sound suggested a very high speed.
Police continue detailed investigation
Police thoroughly documented the crash site, questioned the truck driver and sent the bodies to Laem Chabang Hospital for autopsy. Authorities said they were continuing their investigation into the precise circumstances of the accident, focusing in particular on speed, possible distraction by the navigation device and the situation of the parked trailer truck.
