BANGKOK, THAILAND – Thailand’s women’s volleyball team swept Indonesia 3–0 to reach the SEA Games final and move within one victory of a historic title run.
Thailand dominates semifinal on home court
Playing in front of home fans at Huamark Indoor Stadium, the Thai team left little doubt about its superiority in the semifinal of the 33rd SEA Games. The defending champions overpowered Indonesia in straight sets, 25:15, 25:21, 25:15.
Thailand’s attacks were described as varied and precise, while its defense stood firm and left Indonesia struggling to generate sustained pressure. After a clear first set, Thailand had to work harder briefly in the second before closing it out confidently, and the third set turned into another demonstration of strength.
Star-studded lineup delivers a seamless performance
Head coach Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai relied on his strongest starting six for the knockout match. Led by captain Chatchu-on Moksri, the side produced a cohesive team display that kept Indonesia on the back foot.
Experienced setter Pornpun Guedpard directed play, with powerful hitters Pimpichaya Kokram and Sasipaporn Janthawisut providing consistent scoring, supported by reliable libero Piyanut Pannoy. Every player fulfilled her role effectively, resulting in a smoothly functioning system that Indonesia could not break.
Vietnam awaits in high-stakes gold-medal clash
In the other semifinal, Vietnam also advanced with a 3–0 victory over the Philippines, setting up a showdown between two regional powerhouses of women’s volleyball. Both sides were determined to claim the title, but only one would emerge with gold.
The final was scheduled for Monday, 15 December, at 5:30 p.m. at Huamark Indoor Stadium, with the winner set to write a new chapter in SEA Games history. Across the region, expectations were building for a tense contest.
Thailand chasing 17th SEA Games title
For Thailand, the match carried historic weight: a win would secure a 17th SEA Games championship and a 15th consecutive title defense. Such a streak was described as a rarity in sport and would further cement the team’s legendary status.
