PATTAYA, THAILAND – A 55-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in Huay Yai after crashing into a metal fence and becoming trapped in the wreckage.
Rider trapped in collapsed metal fence
According to police, the accident occurred around 2 a.m. on Monday on Municipal Road 1 in Huay Yai, near Soi 36 in Chonburi province, behind the tourist city of Pattaya. At the scene, responders found a grey Yamaha Filano motorcycle that had slammed into a partially collapsed corrugated metal fence. The rider, identified as Mr. Ubon Duangchumphon (55), remained pinned on the bike, with his left leg badly injured by a sharp piece of metal.
Rescuers use hydraulic tools
Officers from the Huay Yai police station quickly alerted volunteers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Foundation in Pattaya and medical staff from Wat Yansangwararam Hospital. Because of the complicated entrapment, rescuers used hydraulic cutting and spreading tools, known as the “Jaws of Life,” to free the victim. The careful operation took extra time as helpers tried to prevent the severe leg injuries from worsening.
After being freed, Mr. Ubon received emergency treatment at the scene and was then transported to hospital in serious condition.
Witness reports evasive maneuver
An eyewitness, Mr. Butsadee Arjhan (42), who had parked nearby with his motorcycle and sidecar, told police what he had observed. He said he heard the sound of a motorcycle losing control, apparently as the rider tried to avoid a dog.
“I heard the motorcycle start to skid, then the loud impact with the fence.”
said Butsadee Arjhan, eyewitness.
He ran to the crash site and saw that the rider’s leg had been injured by the metal sheet.
Mr. Butsadee stated that freeing the man with bare hands was impossible, so he immediately called the rescue services.
Police examine possible causes
Huay Yai police began their investigation during the night and said they would examine several factors. These included the condition of the road at the time of the accident, the possible speed of the motorcycle, and the presence of stray animals near the crash site. Investigators aimed to determine whether a dog had actually run onto the road and triggered the evasive maneuver, and planned to use further witness statements and traces at the scene to reconstruct the exact course of events.
Stray dogs seen as recurring traffic risk
Stray dogs were regarded as a recurring risk to road traffic in many areas around Pattaya, especially at night when visibility is poorer and vehicles tend to travel faster. The incident in Huay Yai added to ongoing concerns about a combination of speed, road conditions, and unpredictable obstacles on local roads.
