BANGKOK, THAILAND – Thai rock star Sek Loso halted all approved work outside prison after guards refused entry to his wife and daughter at a high-security event.
Family visit turns into public scandal
The incident occurred on 3 December, when Wiphakorn “Karn” Sukpimai went to celebrate her husband’s birthday with their daughter at the prison. The musician, legally named Seksan Sukpimai, had been scheduled to perform at the Central Women’s Correctional Institution and his wife believed she was on the guest list. At the gate, however, guards refused the family entry without compromise.
Angry wife broadcasts confrontation live
Shocked at being turned away, Wiphakorn started a live broadcast on Facebook, sharing her anger with millions of followers.
“This is a disrespect to my family!”
said Wiphakorn “Karn” Sukpimai, the musician’s wife. Images of the confrontation between officials and the visibly upset woman spread rapidly online and triggered a nationwide debate about how families of prisoners were treated.
Prison cites strict security rules
The prison issued a swift official response, with director Walailak Chumchuen stressing strict security protocols on 4 December. She said the event had been a high-security function with invited guests, including senior justice officials, and that the guest list had been approved in advance. The Sukpimai family was not on that list, and the prison stated briefly,
“All measures were carried out in accordance with the Corrections Act and the department’s protocols.”

Handwritten letter announces total withdrawal
The imprisoned rock star responded quickly and decisively, writing a handwritten letter to the prison director and the director-general of the corrections department.
“I, Seksan Sukpimai, would like to end all external work obligations from today. The reason is the humiliation that befell me and my family on 3 December.”
said Seksan “Sek Loso” Sukpimai, incarcerated musician. He added that he was suffering from serious physical and mental health problems, and his wife later posted the emotional letter online.
Loss of privileges and outside income
Held in Minburi remand custody, the artist had previously enjoyed privileged status, regularly allowed to perform outside the prison under supervision. By cancelling these assignments, he voluntarily gave up valuable contact with the outside world and opportunities to earn income. The Justice Ministry had not commented on his withdrawal, stating only that regulations had to be followed.
Rock legend behind bars
The 48-year-old musician is regarded as a legend of the Thai rock scene, with his band “Loso” shaping an entire generation of fans. His career, however, had long been overshadowed by drug problems and repeated conflicts with the law, and his current detention stemmed from violations of weapons legislation. The latest scandal showed that, even behind bars, the star remained at the centre of public drama and continued to fuel political tensions.
