PATTAYA, THAILAND – Over the weekend, Jomtien Beach hosted an international windsurfing elite and turned into a floating sports arena for several days.
Three championships on a single course
The centrepiece of the programme was the official opening of the “TECHNO 293 & TECHNO 293 PLUS ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS”, a key regatta series for young windsurfers in Asia. At the same venue, two further competitions were launched in parallel: the Thailand Windsurfing Championships 2026 and the Pattaya International Windsurfing Championship 2026 (Round 1).
Political backing on the beach
The opening ceremony was led by Sakol Phonluk-in, deputy chief of the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization, signalling the province’s support for Pattaya as a water sports hub. Representing the city, Visit Sakh Wongworachat, director of the Tourism Development Division, attended on behalf of Mayor Poramese Ngampichet and highlighted the importance of the event for tourism and sports development in the region.
International stage for young talents
The regatta was organised by the Windsurfing Association of Thailand, the International Windsurfing Association (IWA), the Pattaya Windsurfing Club and Pattaya City, which together created conditions for several professional competitions at one location. Hundreds of young athletes from Asia and other regions competed in different classes, showcasing high speeds, precise manoeuvres and tight position battles on the waves off Jomtien Beach.
Colourful backdrop along Pattaya’s coast
Locals and holidaymakers lined the coast to follow the races, as the multitude of boards and sails created a colourful scene on the water and an intense competition atmosphere just off the beach. The event was documented by the Public Relations Division, Office of Tourism and Sports, Pattaya City, with on-site reporting by Natcha Traipipattan and photographic coverage by Chinnarang Chuencheue.
