KANCHANABURI, THAILAND – Thai police, military and immigration officers uncovered eight kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 8,000 methamphetamine tablets during a coordinated raid near the Myanmar border on November 12, 2025.
Joint raid in Ban Phra Chedi Sam Ong
On November 12, 2025, officers led by Police General Pisith Tanprasert carried out simultaneous operations in the border village of Ban Phra Chedi Sam Ong, a remote area near the Three Pagodas Pass. The team entered a rented room after receiving intelligence about cross-border drug movements.
“We had information about large drug quantities,”
said Police General Pisith Tanprasert.
Officers used ballistic shields as they forced entry into the property. Two male occupants attempted to block the door but surrendered soon after police breached it.
Discovery of drugs in tea packaging
Inside the room, investigators found 8 kilograms of crystal meth concealed in green Chinese tea bags. They also discovered 8,000 methamphetamine tablets sealed in blue plastic bags and seized three mobile phones as evidence.
“The drugs were intended for distribution further inside the country,”
said Police Spokesperson, Royal Thai Police.
Police estimated the street value of the seized narcotics in Thailand to be in the six-figure range.
Two Indonesian suspects detained
The suspects, identified as Rahul Kana, 30, and Sapriadi, 31, both Indonesian nationals, were arrested at the scene. Urine tests showed no traces of drug consumption.
Investigators confirmed:
“No drug residues detected.”
said Police Investigators, Kanchanaburi Narcotics Unit.
Despite their claims of innocence, police stated that evidence collected at the site linked them clearly to the trafficking case.
Three Pagodas Pass under scrutiny
The Three Pagodas Pass, located on the Thai-Myanmar border, has long been a key entry point for international smuggling networks. Local narcotics officers reported repeated use of this route by organized drug groups attempting to transport contraband into central Thailand.
An investigator added:
“We suspect connections to a larger syndicate.”
said Kanchanaburi Police Investigator.
Authorities believe the two detainees acted as couriers while higher-ranking figures directed the shipment from across the border.
Severe penalties under Thai law
The pair face prosecution for possession of Category 1 narcotics with intent to sell, an offence under Thai drug law.
“That qualifies as drug trafficking and carries strict punishment,”
said Independent Legal Analyst, Bangkok Criminal Court.
Convictions for Category 1 offences can result in multiple years of imprisonment. Thai courts have consistently imposed harsh sentences for cross-border narcotics crimes involving foreign networks.
Ongoing investigation
The Royal Thai Police Narcotics Department and Kanchanaburi Provincial Command continue to track the supply chain behind the intercepted shipment. Officers are now gathering intelligence from seized phones and border surveillance to identify accomplices operating from Myanmar territory.
