Pattaya Foundation Shares 600 Rice Bags

Local charity distributes food to needy residents as Thailand’s Vegetarian Festival nears its conclusion

PATTAYA, THAILAND – Hundreds of residents gathered outside the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation this week as volunteers distributed rice and other essentials to underprivileged households ahead of the final day of Thailand’s annual Vegetarian Festival.

Community Support Amid Festival Spirit

Held on October 29, 2025, the donation drive provided 600 bags of rice, each weighing 5 kilograms, to local families experiencing economic hardship. The event took place at the foundation’s main compound in Pattaya’s Naklua area, an important site for community relief operations.

Organizers said recipients began forming queues shortly after midday, reflecting the deep trust the public places in the long‑established foundation. The annual initiative takes place in conjunction with the Vegetarian Festival, a time when Thai‑Chinese communities across the country practice purification and acts of charity.

Donations From the Public and Devotees

According to the foundation, the goods distributed were sourced entirely from public donations and committee member contributions. Before being handed out, all items underwent traditional blessing rituals, in line with custom during the festival period.

Additional benefactors joined the effort. Mui Hua Tan, a 74‑year‑old garden landscaping business owner, donated 10,000 baht in cash, saying she wished to honor her ancestors. The Thapthim family, well‑known locally, provided free vegan ice cream and school supplies for children.

Expanding Outreach Across Pattaya

This year’s overall program delivered 2,500 bags of rice through multiple locations citywide:

600 bags distributed at the Sawang Boriboon Foundation headquarters
300 bags at the fishing pier area
300 bags in Chak Ngaew
300 bags on Koh Larn island
• The remaining supply distributed among Pattaya City Hall departments

The foundation stated that these coordinated efforts were intended to ensure that no community quarter was overlooked, particularly those hardest hit by rising living costs.

Tradition of Compassion Continues

The Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation has long been recognized for emergency response and social welfare activities in the region. During religious observances, it often extends its work beyond rescue services to include humanitarian outreach.

Volunteers described the 2025 campaign as a reaffirmation of solidarity between local donors and residents struggling with limited income.

“EVEN SMALL GESTURES CAN BRING GREAT RELIEF WHEN A COMMUNITY ACTS TOGETHER”,

one volunteer said, emphasizing the shared value of compassion cultivated during the Vegetarian Festival.

The festival, which concludes on October 30, remains one of Pattaya’s most significant cultural events—uniting spiritual devotion with tangible acts of kindness.
