Police called after Norwegian woman collapses on Phuket street
Sarah, 32, a teacher from Norway, was found passed out on the pavement by police during a routine night patrol in Phuket. Next to her was Daniel, 35, an Israeli tourist, keeping an eye on her as traffic whizzed by. Her husband was nowhere to be seen—because he was frantically searching their hotel in panic.
Officers say Sarah was ‘completely intoxicated.’ She wore no ID. Daniel, an engineer, explained: ‘I’m not her friend. We met this evening on Bangla Road, had a drink, and then I saw something was wrong.’

The drama unfolded late on 24 September. Emergency volunteers and police scrambled to contact local hotels. Eventually, staff at the Kalima Resort and Spa recognised Sarah from a photo. Her husband, 36, an IT consultant, was ‘out of his mind with worry,’ one staff member said. Police brought Sarah—confused but unharmed—back to her husband’s arms after a tense night.
Witnesses stepped in before officers arrived
A local woman later posted online that she and her boyfriend, a tuk-tuk driver, spotted Sarah ‘barely able to stand.’ The woman added: ‘She couldn’t even dress herself. I wrapped her in a blanket to keep her warm while we waited for help.’
Online reactions are divided
News of the incident quickly spread online, with heated debate among locals and expats. Some hailed Daniel as a ‘hero for not turning away, even though he was drunk himself.’ Others joked: ‘Poor guy—babysitting a married woman while her husband loses his mind!’
But not everyone saw the funny side. Several users slammed Sarah’s reckless behaviour, branding it ‘irresponsible’ and a warning to others.
Not the first bizarre tourist tale in Phuket
This isn’t the first time drunken tourists have shocked the island. Back in April 2025, a foreign man was found sleeping in a Bang Tao cemetery after a taxi dumped him there; he was too drunk to share his hotel address.
Such incidents highlight the dark side of Phuket’s party scene. Tourists can—and do—lose control, sometimes with dangerous results.
Police say they chose not to press charges. Instead, officers led Sarah safely back to her hotel. But they warn all tourists: Patong nightlife is full of temptation, but losing your limits could cost you dearly.
