Anutin Charnvirakul Appointed Prime Minister
Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, has been formally appointed as Thailand’s 32nd Prime Minister following a royal command issued on 7 September.
At 11:30 a.m., Arphat Sukkanant, Secretary-General of the House of Representatives, delivered the royal command to Bhumjaithai Party headquarters on Phahonyothin Road, Chatuchak district. The proclamation, issued by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn, confirmed Anutin’s appointment after parliament endorsed him on 5 September with a majority vote.
Constitutional Transition and Ceremony
The royal proclamation noted that the premiership of Paetongtarn Shinawatra had ended under constitutional provisions, clearing the way for Anutin’s election. By authority of Section 158 of the Constitution, His Majesty appointed Anutin as Prime Minister, effective immediately. House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha signed as the royal command’s recipient.
The appointment ceremony at the Bhumjaithai headquarters was attended by Anutin’s family, party members, and representatives of coalition partners expected to form the new government under his leadership.
Anutin’s Remarks and Commitments
Speaking after the ceremony, Anutin described the appointment as “an immeasurable honour” for himself and his family. He pledged loyalty to the King and commitment to the Thai people.
“I solemnly swear to fulfil my duties with honesty, integrity and dedication, worthy of the trust placed in me, for the happiness of the Thai people and the enduring prosperity of our nation,” he said.
