5 Russians Arrested for Illegal Fishing Tour & Karaoke Bar

Phuket and Surat Thani police arrested five Russians for an illegal fishing tour and renovating a building for a karaoke bar.

Phuket, Thailand – Police arrested five Russian nationals accused of organizing an illegal fishing tour in Phuket and renovating a building for a future karaoke bar on Koh Samui.

Angling Tour Stopped in Chalong Bay

On Wednesday, police in Phuket intercepted a 37-year-old Russian man on a boat in Chalong Bay. He allegedly operated a fishing tour for five fellow Russians.

Pol Lt Gen Ekachai Siri of the Phuket Tourist Police said the arrest stemmed from a month-long covert operation.

“The arrest was part of a covert operation that was prepared over a month. An informant had previously infiltrated a group of illegal tour services led by the suspect.”

3,000 Baht for Guide Services

The officer stated the man charged clients 3,000 Baht for tour guide services, a job restricted to Thai nationals.

The illegal operation carries a penalty of up to two years in prison and/or a fine of up to 500,000 Baht.

Renovation for Karaoke Bar on Koh Samui

On Tuesday evening, police in Surat Thani arrested four Russian men who were renovating a building on Koh Samui for a fellow Russian. The structure was intended as an entertainment venue.

All four held tourist visas and were registered as residents of Phuket. Two had overstayed their visas; police seized instruments and audio-video equipment for the karaoke and electrical systems of the venue.

Work Near Chaweng Beach

The men, aged 27 to 45, had traveled to the area near Chaweng Beach in Tambon Bo Phut for the renovation work.

There, their compatriot planned to open a karaoke bar.
