German tourist drowns at Phuket’s Freedom Beach

Body of Jannik Juergen Knobel found after day-long search off right side of beach

PHUKET, THAILAND – A 30-year-old German tourist drowned at Freedom Beach and vanished before rescuers found his body the next day.

Jannik Juergen Knobel went missing on August 10 around 3:45pm in the recreational forest at Freedom Beach. Emergency teams discovered his body floating off the right side of the beach at 3:10pm on August 11.

Rescue workers located the missing tourist at 3:10pm. His body was floating off the right side of Freedom Beach.

Investigators from Karon police station took over the inquiry. They will proceed according to standard procedures.

German tourist missing since previous day

The accident happened on August 10 around 3:45pm in the recreational forest at Freedom Beach. The missing man was identified as 30-year-old German Jannik Juergen Knobel.

On August 11, recreational forest staff and other agencies continued searching. The search lasted until rescue teams found the body.

Minister offers condolences to family

Environment and Natural Resources Minister Suchat Chomklin offered his deepest condolences to the deceased’s family and loved ones.

He instructed staff to monitor the situation and cooperate closely with involved authorities. He also thanked all rescue teams for their help in the search.

German embassy notified

The forest authority ordered its staff to inform the German embassy in Thailand about the death. Steps regarding the deceased will also be coordinated.

The authority wants to ensure that the German tourist’s family is informed about the incident.
