BANGKOK, THAILAND – Thailand is merging its tourism apps into one powerhouse platform to boost safety and slash confusion for visitors.
The Digital Economy and Society Ministry and the Tourism and Sports Ministry are joining forces to link tourist services through the Big Data Institute’s Travel Link platform.
Apps to unite under one digital roof
The plan folds apps like Thailand Tourist Police, Amazing Thailand and Tourism Wallet into a single data and service hub. The ‘Centre for Domestic Tourist Data Collection’ project will feed into the broader Thailand Tourism Platform.
Travel Link, run by the Big Data Institute, already dishes out travel info. Now it will host all those services to make life easier for tourists.
Working group led by top inspector
Digital Minister Chaiyachon Chidchob, Deputy Digital Minister Nan Bunthida Somchai and Tourism Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul thrashed out the plan at a meeting on August 4.
The two ministries set up a temporary joint working group. Polawat Witoolkollachit, Inspector General of the Digital Economy and Society Ministry, takes the chair.
Focus on safety and data sharing
The working group will develop the tourism platform with safety and data integration front and centre. The goal is to kill duplicate services and make platform sharing more efficient.
The merged data will also serve tourism businesses, local communities and small and medium enterprises as a foundation for their work. The idea is a single technical backbone for government and tourism services.
Digital systems for government and people
The Digital Economy and Society Ministry is pushing to build digital systems that help people handle tech better and trust it more. It also plans to support government agencies with digital management and public service development.
The planned tourism platform aims to make information access easier for both officials and the public.
