CHIANG MAI, Thailand – A cannabis shop worker was brutally attacked by a group of men who stole the security camera memory card. Two suspects are now in custody.
The attack happened on the night of July 30 in the Soi Mookrata ABC area. A video posted online helped police identify the attackers.
Video posted online led police to suspects
Footage of the assault spread quickly on social media after the attack. Officers at Chang Phueak police station analysed the video and confirmed the identities of several involved.
The thugs had tried to cover their tracks by swiping the memory card from the shop’s security camera. Their plan failed.
Attack in Soi Mookrata ABC
Police say about five to six men stormed into the cannabis shop in Tambon Chang Phueak, Mueang district. They targeted a male employee, beating him severely and leaving him badly hurt.
Before fleeing, they deliberately disabled the security system and took the CCTV memory card. The shop owner then filed a complaint at Chang Phueak police station.
Two arrests on Monday evening
On the evening of August 1, officers moved in. Around 8pm, police from Chang Phueak station detained two men from the group and took them to the station.
Prosecutors have charged the pair with joint intentional bodily harm and joint coercion. Both charges point to premeditation and carry heavy penalties.
Hunt for remaining accomplices
Investigators believe three to four more suspects are still on the run. The manhunt is in full swing.
Police stressed they will bring the remaining gang members to justice and are pressing on with the investigation.
