Phuket woman, 36, held for killing mother-in-law, 74

Sriwan allegedly attacked Chantra with a weapon during family dispute in Chalong, police say

PHUKET, THAILAND – A 36-year-old woman allegedly murdered her 74-year-old mother-in-law during a violent family row in a Chalong home. Cops arrested her at the scene.

Neighbors heard the fight and called police around 9:15am on Saturday. Officers and forensics found Chantra dead with severe injuries inside her house in Muang district.

Police find victim’s body

The first emergency calls came in at the Chalong station just after 9:15am. Officers and forensic investigators arrived to find the 74-year-old woman lifeless on the property.

Her body showed serious wounds. According to initial findings, the daughter-in-law used a weapon against the victim and then killed her.

Alone before the attack

Only the two women were inside the house when the argument erupted. The cause of the dispute is still unclear.

Police say Sriwan attacked her mother-in-law and inflicted the fatal injuries.

Suspect found in bathroom

Neighbors watched the fight unfold and immediately alerted authorities. Officers arrived shortly after and swept the building.

They found the 36-year-old suspect in the bathroom. She surrendered without resistance.

Investigation ongoing

Forensic officers and a duty doctor carried out a preliminary autopsy and collected evidence at the scene.

Police Major Charuwit Khuncharoen, investigation chief at the Chalong station, said legal steps are being taken against the accused. The probe into the exact circumstances and motive continues.
