BANGKOK, THAILAND – Online scammers have once again defrauded thousands of people in Thailand of millions of baht in the past week, with financial losses surging despite a slight drop in reported cases.

Between June 21 and June 27, 2026, a total of 5,092 fraud cases were reported through the Thaipoliceonline portal. The total financial damage incurred amounted to 160,206,821 baht.
Although the number of reported offenses decreased by 30 cases compared to the previous week, the total loss climbed by 5.99 million baht. Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Nonthaburi remain particularly affected regions.

Approximately 4,146 cases, or 81.4 percent, were related to goods and services fraud. Financial and investment fraud, while fewer in number, resulted in a significant damage sum of 46.89 million baht.
Statistical analysis also revealed that women aged 21 to 30 are most frequently falling victim to criminals. This age group leads in the three most common types of offenses: goods fraud, identity theft, and fraud through promises of benefit.
Erfolgreiche Rettung von über 1,2 Millionen Baht
Through close collaboration between the ACSC, banks, and local police, five cases were successfully intercepted last week. These interventions secured a total of 72 victims’ transfers, amounting to 1,207,875 baht, before they could be accessed by fraudsters.
In one incident in Lam Phak Chi, the War Room team coordinated a police operation to save a 35-year-old man from losing 800,000 baht to investment fraud. Further interventions took place in Kalasin province and within the jurisdiction of the Sutthisan police station in Bangkok.
Gefährliche Falle: Der Wechsel auf private Messenger
The ACSC strongly warns against the tactic of shifting conversations from official platforms like Facebook, TikTok, or Instagram to private messengers such as LINE or Telegram. This is a deliberate trick to lure victims into chat groups populated exclusively by “decoys.”
These accomplices use fake accounts to gain trust through fabricated profits and manipulated transfer receipts. If a user is prompted to switch platforms, they should immediately cease the conversation to avoid falling into the trap.
Hilfe für Betroffene
Anyone suspecting they have fallen victim to online fraud should act immediately. Authorities advise against making further payments and urge immediate contact with the hotline 1441 to have accounts frozen.
Additionally, victims can file a report 24/7 via the official website www.thaipoliceonline.go.th. A swift report is crucial for securing evidence and increasing the chances of recovering funds.
