Thailand: Pushing for Quality Tourism

New 'Thailand 365 Days' strategy focuses on sustainability and broader economic benefits.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand is enhancing its profile as a year-round destination, focusing on quality, local experiences, and sustainability. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, stated that the “Thailand 365 Days” policy responds to new travel trends and strategically distributes revenue across the country. In the first half of 2026, the country remained a top destination for Asian tourists, but the government now aims to leverage this boom more effectively.

Großstädte bleiben Magnete – doch die Strategie ändert sich

Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, and Cha-am continued to attract a significant number of Asian travelers in the first six months of 2026. Data from the Agoda platform confirmed the sustained strong interest in these established hotspots.

Despite this enduring popularity, the government intends to shift its approach and reduce reliance on a few key centers. The robust demand is to be strategically utilized to bolster new destinations and local economic cycles.

Naturziele profitieren vom neuen Reisehunger

Locations such as Khao Yai, Nakhon Nayok, and Kanchanaburi are experiencing growing interest from travelers seeking authentic nature experiences. This trend directly supports the government’s objectives.

For officials, this is a core mechanism of “Thailand 365 Days”: fostering year-round travel enthusiasm to generate broad economic benefits, rather than concentrating revenue in just a few cities.

Lokale Identität als Schlüssel für mehr Wert

The strategy closely integrates tourism with regional products, geographical indications, cuisine, and traditions. This aims to increase the economic value of each trip and ensure money directly benefits local communities.

Ratchada emphasized that the focus is on visitors who stay longer, spend more, and return. The priority is not sheer tourist numbers, but the quality of each individual travel experience.

Grüner Plan soll Thailands Ziele weltweit voranbringen

Tourism Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul informed the Prime Minister that his ministry is prepared to consistently develop natural attractions according to international sustainability standards. The “Thailand Green Tourism Plan 2030” provides the framework for this initiative.

The goal is to be ranked among the top 100 sustainable destinations globally. This initiative is intended to solidify Thailand’s image as a high-quality travel country in the long term and enhance its international visibility.

Doi Phu Kha räumt internationalen Preis ab

The Doi Phu Kha National Park in Nan province serves as an example of the strategy’s success, according to the government. This protected area received the “Green Destinations Awards 2026,” recognizing it as a pioneering destination.

Officials view this as proof that natural beauty and sustainable management can be effectively combined. The park is intended to serve as a blueprint for upgrading other destinations across the country.

Infrastruktur und Feste für 365 Tage Reiseziel

In addition to landscape, cuisine, and hospitality, the government is driving improvements in transportation, safety, and service standards. A year-round calendar of festivals and activities is designed to make Thailand attractive every day of the year. The spokesperson anticipates more repeat visits, a wider distribution of revenue across all regions, and sustainable growth benefiting the entire country, not just a few select centers.
