BANGKOK, THAILAND – Thailand’s famed beaches and temples are drawing a growing stream of international visitors, with recent figures showing a significant uptick in tourist numbers.
In the week spanning June 14 to June 20, 2026, Thailand welcomed a total of 508,133 foreign visitors, an increase of 21,464 compared to the previous week. This surge brought the daily average of arrivals to over 72,500.
The Tourism Ministry attributed this considerable boost to a confluence of public holidays across various Asian nations. These festive periods typically encourage citizens to travel, providing a welcome influx to the kingdom’s vital tourism sector.

The surge in arrivals was primarily driven by a substantial number of Chinese tourists, who accounted for 83,796 visitors during the reported week. Since the beginning of the year, China has consistently been Thailand’s largest source market, contributing over 2.5 million travelers.
Malaysia also saw a notable increase, with 81,398 visitors arriving, largely due to a mid-week holiday. Taiwan experienced a remarkable 18 percent jump in arrivals, positioning it as the fifth-largest market, following India and Singapore.

This influx of tourists has translated directly into significant revenue for the Thai economy. Since January 1, the kingdom has hosted a total of 15.45 million foreign guests, who have spent approximately 745 billion Baht.
Confirming these preliminary figures, Tourism Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul highlighted the impact of the Dragon Boat Festival celebrated in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. This event proved to be a substantial financial boon for the tourism industry.

However, the current surge is expected to be a temporary phenomenon. The Ministry anticipates a decline in tourist arrivals for the upcoming week.
This projected dip is attributed to many markets entering a post-holiday travel lull. A decrease in expected visitors from India, for instance, is anticipated due to reduced flight availability.

Despite this anticipated temporary slowdown, the overall tourism balance sheet remains robust. The total number of tourists has surpassed 15 million, a significant achievement. Short-haul markets contributed 373,263 arrivals, while long-haul markets saw a healthy 7.40 percent increase, with 134,870 visitors.
These figures reinforce Thailand’s standing as a premier travel destination within the region, navigating periods of intense activity with sustained overall growth.
