SAI NOI, THAILAND – A garbage truck driver died after crashing into the back of a parked truck on Bang Kruai-Sai Noi Road.

Early this morning, at approximately 04:30, police in Sai Noi received an emergency call. A six-wheeled garbage truck collided with a yellow Hino truck that was parked on the roadside near the district office turn-off. The impact was so severe that the garbage truck driver was immediately trapped in his cabin.
The driver of the ten-wheel truck was not present at the time of the accident. He was operating a pickup truck while colleagues nearby were working on power lines. They heard a loud bang and initially mistook the sound for a falling object.

When rescuers from the Poh-Teck-Tung Foundation arrived, they were met with a grim scene. The 63-year-old driver, identified as Saman, was found unconscious in the destroyed cabin of the garbage truck. Rescuers used hydraulic cutting and spreading tools to pry open the metal and reach the severely injured man.
They worked under high pressure to free Saman and transported him to Sai Noi Hospital. However, his injuries were too severe, and doctors were unable to save his life. He succumbed to his internal injuries shortly thereafter.

Colleagues of the deceased expressed their shock. They informed the police that Saman had driven the crew home earlier. After that, he was traveling alone in the garbage truck to deliver its load to the depot in Sai Noi district.
The fatal collision occurred before he reached the depot. The driver of the ten-wheel truck, Somyot, stated that he had properly secured his vehicle with orange warning pylons on the roadside, a common practice in that area.

Police Major Natthawut Mingmuang initiated an investigation and secured evidence at the accident site. Based on initial statements and the force of the impact, the evidence strongly suggests a case of microsleep by the garbage truck driver. There were no apparent signs of braking or evasive maneuvers.
To eliminate any remaining doubts, the police plan to review surveillance camera footage from along Bang Kruai-Sai Noi Road. This video review is intended to clarify the exact sequence of events leading to the accident and confirm the hypothesis of driver fatigue.
