KHON KAEN, Thailand – An electric car caught fire while charging, with flames spreading to a residential building, but four occupants managed to escape unharmed.

Early Tuesday morning, around 6:00 AM, a fire erupted in the driveway of a house at number 9/2109 in Tambon Muang Kao. The white BYD Dolphin, with license plates from Khon Kaen, was connected to an external charging station when flames suddenly burst from the vehicle.
The fire spread rapidly from the car to the adjacent residential house. The entire vehicle was destroyed, and the house also sustained severe damage before emergency services could bring the blaze under control.

The 46-year-year-old homeowner, Setthaphat Kaewfainok, had parked the vehicle for charging. He suddenly heard sounds resembling a fire breaking out and immediately raised the alarm.
He and the three other residents fled the house. From their safe vantage point in the garden, the four watched as flames consumed the vehicle. Setthaphat then called emergency services.

Firefighters from the communities of Khon Kaen and Muang Kao responded immediately. Using water hoses, emergency crews battled the flames for more than an hour until the fire was finally under control.
By then, the fire had completely destroyed the BYD Dolphin and severely damaged large parts of the residential house. Fortunately, no one was injured; all four residents remained unharmed.

Police and forensic investigators are now examining the fire scene. It is still unclear where the fire precisely began – within the vehicle itself, at the charging station, or from another source. Fires involving electric cars during charging processes repeatedly spark discussions about safety.
Authorities in Khon Kaen have not yet released any findings on the exact cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
