KHON KAEN, Thailand – The private sector in Khon Kaen has introduced new direct flight proposals, aiming to bolster the region’s position as a travel and MICE hub.
Neue Routen nach Hua Hin und U‑Tapao vorgeschlagen
On June 8, key figures from the tourism, trade, and industry sectors met with Thani Tharaphak, the CEO of EZY Airlines. The discussion focused on establishing two new flight connections: Khon Kaen to Hua Hin and Khon Kaen to U‑Tapao. Natthiya Tantasuk, President of the Khon Kaen Tourism and MICE Association, highlighted that these routes could directly link the northeastern region to important holiday and business destinations, filling a current void in direct connectivity.
Privatwirtschaft drängt auf bessere Anbindung
This meeting was not an official government session but rather a proactive initiative driven by the private sector. Participants included representatives from the Tourism and MICE Association, the Tourism Industry Council, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Industrial Association. All involved parties believe these new routes will significantly boost tourism, trade, and investments. Khon Kaen is eager to expand its role as a central hub for business travel and conferences in the region.
Turboprop-Maschinen mit 60 bis 80 Plätzen
Discussions also touched upon suitable aircraft for these shorter routes. The ATR turboprop aircraft, which can carry between 60 to 80 passengers, were considered ideal. These planes are seen as perfect for connecting secondary cities without relying on major aviation hubs. However, no concrete flight schedules have been released yet.

The proposals have been forwarded to commercial airlines for further review. Neither EZY Airlines nor any other carrier has confirmed a flight schedule or a launch date for these potential new routes. The future of these direct connections now rests with the airlines’ commercial assessments.
