PATHUM THANI, Thailand – Police have solved a murder case of a Burmese labor broker, apprehending a suspect just two days after the crime. The 50-year-old man is believed to be responsible for the death of the 43-year-old woman. While the suspect has confessed, the motive for the killing remains unclear. A press conference is scheduled for later today to release further details.
Victim helped Burmese workers
Thinnuay Mawin, known affectionately as “A,” was from Myanmar and worked as a labor broker for her compatriots. She resided in a house behind the Foundation for the Promotion of Islamic Education in Tambon Na Mai, Lat Lum Kaeo District. Investigators quickly determined that the perpetrator likely came from her immediate social circle. The labor broker’s acquaintances became the immediate focus of the investigation.
Course of the crime
Witnesses discovered the lifeless body late on the evening of June 6, around 11:40 PM. The woman was found in her bedroom. Forensic examiners later determined that the victim had sustained massive physical injuries, an incident that deeply affected even experienced officers. The brutality of the attack shocked seasoned investigators.
Surveillance camera led investigators to the trail
Investigators analyzed footage from a nearby surveillance camera. The recording showed a suspicious man, whom officers later located in the neighboring province of Suphan Buri. On the evening of June 8, joint forces from the regional police, Pathum Thani provincial police, and the local station made the arrest. They apprehended the 50-year-old suspect, Nai Leng, and immediately transported him to the Lat Lum Kaeo police station.
Confession without motive
Later that same night, the arrested individual provided a full confession. A Burmese interpreter was present during the interrogation. Leng admitted to killing the labor broker, but a reason for the extreme violence remained obscure for the time being. Police Colonel Dutsadee Hiranrat, head of the station, confirmed the confession. Citing the upcoming press conference, he declined to provide further details initially.
Police Generals announce details
For today, June 9, at 10:00 AM, Lieutenant General Wattana Yeejeen, Commander of Police Region 1, and Major General Peerapol Chotikastien, Chief of Pathum Thani Provincial Police, have called a press conference. The investigation findings and potential background of the crime are expected to be publicly disclosed. The accused remains in police custody.
