PHUKET, THAILAND – An elderly motorcyclist has died in a tragic accident on Thepkrasattri Road.
On Saturday morning, a 78-year-old motorcyclist lost his life on Thepkrasattri Road in Mai Khao. The incident occurred when the rider collided with the rear of a minibus and subsequently fell under a passing truck. Police and rescue workers found the man, identified as Hasan Tangam, at the scene next to his motorcycle. Investigators are currently searching for the minibus involved and attempting to determine the exact circumstances of the fatal crash.
How it happened on the road
The collision took place on the outbound lanes of Thepkrasattri Road, approximately 100 meters north of the old airport intersection, around 8:00 AM on Saturday. According to police, the motorcycle struck the back of a minibus in front of it. This impact caused the rider to lose control and fall into the path of an oncoming truck.
The motorcyclist was run over by one of the truck’s wheels and tragically passed away at the scene. Police meticulously documented the accident site and secured evidence.
Who was involved
The victim has been identified as Hasan Tangam, aged 78. His Honda Wave motorcycle lay beside him. Also present at the scene was a Hino truck with Krabi license plates and its driver, Prawit Rodthong, 34.
The minibus, which Hasan Tangam reportedly hit from behind, did not stop at the accident site. Its identity and whereabouts remain unknown. Authorities are continuing their investigations into this matter.
Statements from the truck driver and initial investigations
Prawit Rodthong informed officers that he was driving normally when the motorcycle collided with the rear of the minibus ahead of him. He stated that he noticed the accident behind his vehicle and applied his brakes immediately.
The Tha Chatchai police are conducting the investigation. They meticulously documented the accident scene with assistance from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation. A forensic examination was carried out in conjunction with doctors from Vachira Phuket Hospital.
Body, relatives, and next steps
Following the examination, Hasan Tangam’s body was transported to Thalang Hospital. Police have contacted and informed the deceased’s relatives.
Investigations into the precise cause of the accident and the location of the minibus are ongoing. The police are continuing with evidence collection and interviews.
