CHON BURI, THAILAND – Four Chinese nationals have been apprehended in coordinated raids within luxury housing estates in Bang Lamung.
Immigration officials and investigators from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) carried out the raids, apprehending the individuals. According to police, they are sought in China for their alleged involvement in an illegal lending network. This network reportedly impacted over 40 victims and demanded monthly interest rates exceeding 30 percent. The arrested individuals were found to be in the country illegally after their residence permits were revoked. Deportation proceedings and a potential extradition to China are now underway.
Raids in Luxury Housing Estates
Coordinated searches were conducted within housing estates in Bang Lamung, with authorities simultaneously accessing multiple addresses. The operations took place in the sub-districts of Huai Yai and Takhian Tia, as confirmed by the authorities. Immigration officials collaborated with the CIB during this operation, focusing on individuals under international investigation.
Who Was Arrested?
The arrested individuals have been identified as three men: Zhang Shuai, 34, Xiao Jian, 36, and Yang Yue, 34, along with one woman, Ge Ning, 34. Police have labeled the four as suspects in ongoing investigations. The coordinated actions targeted the residences of the accused, with no further personal details being released.
Accusation: Illegal Lending Network with Violence Allegations
The CIB stated that these suspects are wanted in China for their alleged participation in an illegal lending network that has affected more than 40 victims. Furthermore, the accused are alleged to have charged monthly interest rates surpassing 30 percent. The suspects are also accused of employing intimidation, unlawful detention, and assault against debtors who defaulted on payments. These allegations are considered serious by the authorities.
Residency Status: Overstay After Revocation
Officials discovered that the residence permits for all four apprehended individuals had previously been revoked, leaving them in the country illegally. Police cited their overstay status as a key reason for the arrests. The status of their visas and the revocations were verified during the searches, with the immigration bureau involved in subsequent steps.
Detention, Deportation, and Expected Extradition
All four individuals are currently in detention, and deportation proceedings have been initiated. An extradition to China for prosecution is anticipated. Authorities have announced further measures to process and potentially transfer the individuals for legal proceedings.
