BANGKOK, THAILAND – Thailand’s government cracks down on counterfeiters with unprecedented force. In just six months, authorities pulled over 1.3 million fake items from circulation – goods worth more than 2.3 billion baht. A total of 332 cases marked a major blow against what officials called the mafia of plagiarists.
332 Raids in Just Six Months
Between October 2025 and March 2026, investigators swept through shopping districts, warehouses, border crossings, and online shops. Everywhere they struck where fake brand-name goods filled shelves and deceived customers.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas made clear: the Prime Minister himself ordered the harsh crackdown. The goal, he said, is to massively strengthen confidence in Thailand’s trade and investment environment.
Counterfeiter Shock: 78 Percent More Damage
The confiscated goods caused an estimated loss of 2.3 billion baht – an increase of 78 percent. In the entire previous year of 2025, the damage stood at just 1.3 billion baht. The new approach is hitting hard.
Ekniti explained that authorities expanded their operations to physical markets and online platforms. High-risk areas and smuggling routes across the country’s borders are especially in focus.
Fake Goods Become a Danger
Deputy Prime Minister Suphajee Suthumpun issued a stark warning:
“Intellectual property violations undermine fair competition and threaten consumer safety. The plagiarized goods are often cheap, but not without danger.”
Small and medium-sized businesses suffer most from the cheap competition. They can barely keep up with the fakes. The government wants to protect these honest companies and give them a fair chance.
New Strategy: Trade Plus Against Plagiarism
The government is rolling out its Trade Plus strategy. It promises stronger protection of intellectual property, better enforcement of standards, and more transparency. A clear signal to counterfeiting gangs.
At the same time, the leadership is forging closer alliances with rights holders, the private sector, and international partners. Campaigns aim to wake up citizens: keep away from fake goods.
Protecting Honest Work
Every purchase of a fake endangers not just the buyer but chokes off small traders and honest manufacturers. Those who buy counterfeits drive into ruin the people who work every day for real quality.
