NAKHON RATCHASIMA, THAILAND – Seven vehicles collided on Highway 224 on Tuesday morning around 8:15 a.m., leaving more than ten people injured and requiring hospitalization.
Accident Sequence
A white Honda Jazz suddenly braked, causing the vehicles behind to be unable to react in time. The reason for the abrupt stop remains under investigation. A gray-black Toyota rear-ended the Jazz, followed by a black Toyota Fortuner. The impact also involved an ice delivery truck and three additional pickup trucks. The mass collision occurred in front of a hardware store in Nong Bua Sala district.
Injuries and Rescue Operation
More than ten drivers and passengers sustained injuries. Rescue officials reported that four people suffered more severe injuries and were transported to Por-Phat Hospital. The remaining injured received on-site care or were also admitted. Workers from the Sawang-Metta Foundation quickly arrived, providing first aid and coordinating patient transport. The crash site blocked access to the city center route for an extended period.
Investigation into Cause
Police secured the scene and questioned the drivers involved. A violation of the minimum safe distance in stop-and-go rush-hour traffic is considered the probable trigger for the pileup. Surveillance and dashcam footage are being analyzed. The central question is why the Honda driver braked so abruptly. Authorities will decide on possible legal consequences only after reviewing all available recordings.

The accident brought traffic on the inbound lane to a standstill. Emergency vehicles cordoned off the affected section, and detours were set up. The duration of the closure is unknown. Nakhon Ratchasima regularly experiences rear-end collisions on heavily traveled inner-city routes, especially during rush hour. Authorities have repeatedly warned about the problem of insufficient following distances.
