PATTAYA, THAILAND – Tourists from around the world continued to pour money into the coastal city days after a huge water festival ended.
Pattaya celebrates record takings
The large water battles were over, but holidaymakers stayed on in the city. Since mid-April, locals and foreigners had crowded into the famous entertainment districts along the coast.
Beer bars and venues around the nightlife areas reported a powerful surge in guests. Operators enjoyed full tables and smiling faces after the tough COVID-19 years.
Billions flow into local tills
Experts from the Tourism Authority estimated that revenues reached a dizzying level. During the three main days alone, the city was believed to have taken in the equivalent of more than 38 million euros.
More than 100,000 visitors flocked to the mega-event on the coast. This rush left business owners with broad smiles and well-filled accounts.
Whole district shares the boom
Not only the big clubs on Walking Street benefited from the celebrations. Small street vendors, taxi drivers and kiosks also earned strongly from the influx of visitors.
From 12 to 19 April, the stream of guests in areas such as Soi Buakhao and Tree Town did not stop. The money thus stayed directly with people living and working in the neighbourhood.
Pattaya holds on to party-capital status
The water festival once again showed that the city remained the country’s key destination for partygoers. Even after the official celebrations ended, many tourists were in no hurry to leave Pattaya.
The city reinforced its reputation as a tourism engine for the whole country. Its mix of sun, beach and colourful nightlife continued to attract large crowds.
