BANGKOK, THAILAND – Two women died and two German men were injured when a nighttime fire ripped through a four-storey townhouse in Bangkok’s Bang Na district, leaving the building completely destroyed while the cause remained unclear.
Fire in Bang Na in the early morning hours
The blaze broke out in the early hours of Sunday in a residential complex in the Bang Na district of Bangkok. The affected building was located opposite Soi Udomsuk 33 on Udom Suk Road in the Bang Na Nuea area.
According to police, the incident was reported at about 2.45 a.m. in a row of four-storey townhouses. Pol Lt Wirat Samran, deputy investigation chief at Bang Na police station, confirmed the initial details of the emergency response.
Flames on several floors – house completely destroyed
Firefighters and rescue workers arrived to find flames already engulfing the second and third floors of one of the houses. It took crews around 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.
They managed to prevent the blaze from spreading to adjacent units in the row of townhouses. The affected townhouse itself was, however, completely destroyed.
Two bodies found in burned-out building
During follow-up operations, responders discovered two bodies in the charred remains of the structure. Both victims were female, according to the police.
Initial findings indicated that the two women likely died from smoke inhalation. One of the deceased was identified as a German national aged around 70.
Second woman (about 40) not yet identified
The second victim was a woman believed to be about 40 years old, whose identity had not yet been established. No further details about her were available in the first reports.
Forensic officers, doctors from the Police General Hospital and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation were called in to examine the scene and the bodies. Investigations at the site were expected to clarify the sequence of events and provide possible leads.
Two German men injured – taken to two hospitals
Two German men were injured in the fire and were taken to hospitals for treatment. A man aged about 50 suffered burns and was transported to Lerdsin Hospital.
The second injured man, around 20 years old, was treated for smoke inhalation at Thai Nakharin Hospital. No further information on their current condition was released.
Investigation continues – cause of fire still unclear
Early investigative work was unable to determine the cause of the blaze. Police said the inquiry into how the fire started would continue.
