PATTAYA, THAILAND – A homeless man was arrested after allegedly hurling stones at a couple riding home from their beer bar on Phratamnak Road, injuring both in the face.
Attack during late-night ride home
The assault occurred at about 10:50 p.m. on 2 April 2026 on Phratamnak Road (Khao Phra Tamnak), while the couple was returning from work on their motorbike. A man standing by the roadside suddenly threw an object toward the motorcycle before the riders could react.
Both victims, Predee Wanitkul (49) and Sunisa Deesawad (39), sustained facial injuries. First responders treated them at the scene, and police stated that their lives were never in danger.
Suspect tried to flee but was stopped
Despite their injuries, the couple managed to keep control of the bike and bring it to a stop. When they confronted the attacker, he attempted to escape and allegedly threw again.
A witness driving a car behind the motorcycle helped subdue the fleeing man. Officers from the Pattaya City Police Station arrived shortly afterward and took the suspect into custody.
Homeless suspect admits random attack
Police identified the attacker as Niran Saeyang (29), a man without a fixed address. In front of the victims, he apologized using the traditional wai greeting and confessed to the assault, saying financial problems had placed him under extreme pressure.
According to Niran, he did not know the couple, and the attack was random with no personal motive. Police confirmed there was no prior relationship between the suspect and the victims.
Witness backs up victims’ account
The driver who had been following the couple told officers he had seen the man standing by the roadside as the motorbike passed. He said he immediately assisted with the arrest and waited with the victims until police arrived.
His statement matched the victims’ description of events and supported the conclusion that it was a random attack. Additional information indicated the man had also targeted other passing vehicles.
Victims treated and in stable condition
Rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation treated the injuries at the scene. Both victims then went on their own to a medical facility for further care.
Speaking to reporters, Predee Wanitkul and Sunisa Deesawad said they had never expected to be attacked on their usual route home.

Police examine suspect’s mental state
Police detained Niran Saeyang and charged him with intentional bodily harm, an offense that can carry a prison sentence of several years. Officers said they were now assessing his mental condition.
A police spokesperson stated that an assault of this kind without any apparent personal motive was unusual and required a thorough review of the background. Investigators also planned to examine the suspect’s financial distress as part of the case.
Increased patrols after public concern
The incident caused concern among residents, as Phratamnak Road is heavily used, especially late at night when bars and restaurants close. Locals and tourists expressed unease about the possibility of further random attacks.
Police announced increased patrols in the affected area. Authorities urged residents and visitors to stay particularly alert at night and to contact officials immediately if they notice suspicious individuals.
