Kobra crawls over tourist’s neck in Krabi hotel

Rescue worker removed a 40–45 cm black cobra from under the bed after a pre-dawn scare

KRABI, THAILAND – A tourist staying at a hotel in Krabi woke to find a black cobra crawling across his neck, in an incident that sparked alarm on social media.

Shocking incident inside a hotel

A Facebook user shared a video documenting a startling encounter with a snake while he was staying in a hotel room in Krabi. The tourist said his girlfriend woke up at around 5 a.m. and screamed that there was a snake on the bed.

At first, he believed she was having a nightmare. On closer attention, however, he realized it was a black cobra that had crawled over his neck.

Response from hotel staff

On 27 March, a rescue worker from Ao Nang received a report about the snake inside the hotel room. He was alerted at 5 a.m. and immediately headed to the scene to check the situation.

When he arrived, he found the snake hiding under the tourist’s bed. It was identified as a cobra about 40–45 cm long and classified as aggressive.

The rescue operation

The rescue worker captured the snake and placed it in a sack so it could be safely released back into nature. The tourist reported that he had felt a cold sensation on his neck while sleeping and, on waking, discovered the snake.

He alerted the hotel staff at once, who reacted quickly and contacted the rescue team.

How the snake entered the room

It was suspected that the cobra reached the hotel via the staircase and slipped into the room through a gap about 4 cm wide between the door and the floor. The incident raised questions about the safety of hotel rooms.

Rescue personnel advised hotel employees and guests to thoroughly inspect rooms before moving in to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“What do you think of this incident? Have you ever had a similar experience while on vacation?”

said Thairath, the source of the report.

“Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments! We look forward to an exciting discussion.”

said Thairath, encouraging online reactions.
