BANGKOK, THAILAND – Bangkok announced details of its 2026 Songkran festival, highlighting a space-themed program, new safety measures and a call for respectful celebrations.
Opening of the Songkran festival
The Songkran festival in Bangkok was officially opened on 26 March 2026 by Governor Chadchart Sittipunt. He said more than 80 planned events across the city were intended to bring joy to residents.
The program was set to run from 12 to 14 April 2026 at various locations in the capital. Cultural activities and ceremonies were included to bring good fortune and blessings to the public.
Theme and activities
This year’s celebrations were organized under the motto “CP SPLASH TO SPACE”, adding a modern and creative touch to the Thai New Year festival. Numerous activities and performances were planned to pick up the theme of space travel.
According to the city, the events were designed not only to entertain. They were also meant to strengthen cooperation between different sectors in order to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for everyone.
Safety measures and organization
Special safety arrangements were introduced for the festivities on Silom Road. The city prepared nine access and exit points, as well as emergency routes for rapid response.
Additional first-aid and information points were set to be established. These were intended to protect participants and support a smooth and orderly flow of the festival.
Call for cooperation
The city administration asked residents to refrain from using water powder during the festivities and to dress respectfully. This guidance was aimed at maintaining cleanliness and public order throughout the festival period.
