PATTAYA, THAILAND – A 22-year-old employee was attacked at night in a lane in Pong subdistrict, thrown from his motorcycle and left injured while the assailant fled.
Incident in Soi Huai Yai Muk on the night of 9 March
The attack occurred at around 11 p.m. on 9 March in Soi Huai Yai Muk, Moo 6, in Pong subdistrict, as the young man was riding his motorcycle home. A man on a blue Honda Wave reportedly followed him, stopped him and kicked his motorcycle, causing the rider to fall. The attacker then left the scene.
Victim files complaint with Nong Prue police
The 22-year-old, identified in the report as “Jok”, who occasionally worked as an ATV tour guide, sustained injuries in the fall. He received medical treatment and then filed a complaint at Nong Prue Police Station.
CCTV footage of the incident, published on the Facebook page “โป่งทอล์ค” (Pong Talk), documented the attack. According to investigators, the suspect was recognizable despite wearing a black full-face helmet, because the motorcycle type and color were distinctive.
Suspect found close to the scene
On 12 March at around 4 p.m., authorities responded to tips from local residents and checked a house less than 200 meters from the crime scene. Village head Sithiwej Phromphlat coordinated the operation together with Pol. Lt. Col. Akrachai Pilasri from Nong Prue Police Station.
In front of the house stood a matching blue Honda Wave. The resident was identified as a 32-year-old man, referred to in the report as “Bank”.
Psychiatric treatment instead of immediate arrest
During questioning, the man responded incoherently according to police, denied the incident and pointed to his own mental health problems. A documented psychiatric history was known, and similar incidents in the area had already been registered.
Officers took him to Pattaya Pathumkhun Hospital for a psychiatric examination. Authorities assumed that stopping his psychiatric medication might have contributed to the behavior.
Earlier incidents reported in the neighborhood
In the days before the attack, the man had reportedly already drawn attention in Moo 1 in Pong subdistrict through aggressive behavior toward vehicles. No official complaint had been filed at that time.
The man’s mother, named in the report as “Aunt Chan”, confirmed to reporters that her son had suffered from a mental illness for years and depended on regular medication. She agreed to his admission after a brief conversation with officers.
Next steps depend on psychiatric report
The victim stated that he did not know the attacker and could not make sense of the incident. He announced that he would take legal action if the psychiatric examination produced a different outcome.
Village chief and investigators stressed that public safety and medical treatment had to be balanced to prevent further incidents. The result of the psychiatric assessment would determine the legal classification of the case.
