Video shows attack on tourists in Pattaya

Police probed an early-morning confrontation on Walking Street after footage of assaults on foreign visitors spread online.

PATTAYA, THAILAND – A viral video from Walking Street showed several people from a group attacking foreign tourists, prompting a police investigation even though the affected couple had not filed a formal complaint.

Incident around 5 a.m. on Walking Street

A 3:12-minute clip that circulated on social networks on 7 March showed a confrontation at around 5 a.m. in the Walking Street area of South Pattaya. The footage appeared to capture the chaotic end of a night out on the city’s most famous entertainment strip.

In the video, a man described as a foreign tourist was seen being confronted and assaulted by several people. Motorcycle taxi drivers intervened and shouted

“Enough! Enough!”

to separate those involved and bring the situation under control.

Second escalation involved a woman

Later in the clip, the foreign couple appeared to argue with each other while additional passersby stepped in to calm them. Bystanders tried to keep the dispute from reigniting on the crowded street.

The situation then escalated again when a group of about four to five transgender women moved toward the woman and attacked her. She appeared visibly shaken and distressed afterward.

Suspected involvement of security staff

According to local reports, additional video sequences also circulated that allegedly showed individuals who looked like security personnel from nearby entertainment venues. These images fueled suspicion that staff from local establishments might have taken part in the assault.

Investigators from Mueang Pattaya Police Station reviewed the material and examined whether employees of nearby venues were involved. Officers stated they were assessing these allegations as part of their broader review of the footage and witness information.

Reactions on social media

The clip spread quickly via major Facebook pages and other platforms, drawing widespread criticism of the violence on the well-known nightlife strip. Many users expressed concern that such scenes could deter visitors.

Numerous comments focused on the impact of such incidents on Pattaya’s image and on the perceived safety of tourists. Online discussions questioned whether enough was being done to protect visitors in the city’s nightlife districts.

Police investigating but no formal complaint yet

Mueang Pattaya police confirmed that they were examining the incident, collecting information and evaluating available evidence. Officers reviewed video material and other clues to piece together the sequence of events.

As of the latest update, the foreign couple had not come to the police to lodge a formal complaint. Authorities called on anyone with additional videos or information about the altercation to contact investigators and assist the case.

Status of investigation and next steps

Local media visited the suspected scene of the incident during the day on 7 March but found nearby venues closed. Residents in the area said they had not noticed the nighttime confrontation.

Police noted that, without a formal complaint, their legal options remained limited. Nevertheless, officers continued to secure evidence and examined whether any offences could be pursued ex officio under Thai law.
