PATTAYA, THAILAND – A British bar manager was attacked and seriously injured in the face by two compatriots shortly after midnight in a beer bar off Soi Pattaya Beach 13, with one suspect caught by bystanders while another escaped as police searched for a motive.
Attack shortly after midnight
Emergency services received the call at about 12:35 a.m. on 8 March 2026 at the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Rescue Centre, and rescue workers and officers from Pattaya City Police Station were dispatched to the scene. On arrival they found a British man, estimated to be between 50 and 60 years old, who was not named by authorities and was described as the bar’s manager.
The injured man had a deep facial wound, which responders said appeared to have been caused by a sharp object and extended for more than 10 centimetres. According to the rescue personnel, around 20 stitches were required to close the injury before the victim was transported to hospital following first aid at the bar.
Office inside bar identified as crime scene
Based on initial findings, the confrontation took place inside the manager’s office within the beer bar. After the transfer to hospital, the victim remained under clinical care and, according to rescue staff, was kept under close medical observation.
Staff told police that the British manager regularly received visits from acquaintances, so there was no immediate suspicion when two other British men went with him into the office. The employees then noticed the office door shaking, along with shadows and movements suggesting a scuffle, before one of the alleged attackers ran out of the office and fled the premises.
Bystanders detain one suspect
According to witnesses, bystanders overpowered the second alleged participant and held him until officers arrived. The man was then taken to Pattaya City Police Station for questioning, while investigators left the exact trigger for the violence open.
Police deployed an investigative team in the surrounding area to track down the escaped suspect. At the same time, officers secured forensic evidence, interviewed witnesses and worked to clarify which circumstances in the office had led to the escalation.

Violence in bars in Pattaya has repeatedly affected foreigners in disputes among themselves and has raised questions about how effectively conflicts in the nightlife sector were actually controlled.
