BANGKOK, THAILAND – Police in Thailand arrested a 20-year-old transgender woman in Bangkok after a widely discussed robbery of a South Korean tourist in Pattaya and an alleged attack on a German visitor the same night.
Arrest after flight to the capital
The suspect was detained on 5 March at around 1:30 p.m. in a residential building in Bangkok’s Huai Khwang district. According to officials, she had allegedly fled the Pattaya area after the incident and was hiding in accommodation in Soi Prachauthit 9.
Authorities stated that she was taken into custody without incident at the address where she had been located. Investigators said they had traced her movements based on information from the crime scene and subsequent leads.
Multiple police units involved
The operation was carried out by Tourist Police Sub-Division 4, Region 2 in cooperation with investigators from the Immigration Police and Huai Yai Police Station, as well as other tourist police units. Officers said they coordinated across several agencies to track the suspect from Pattaya to Bangkok.
Investigators reported that they had identified her after evaluating tips and location-based information. They emphasised that she was clearly identified at the scene of the arrest before being taken away for questioning.
Arrest warrant and serious allegation
Police said an arrest warrant from the Pattaya Provincial Court had been issued against the suspect, named Ratchaphum, also known as Fueang Fah. The charge related to robbery at night, with the additional allegation that the victim was subjected to physical or mental harm.
Authorities indicated that the warrant covered the reported attack on the South Korean tourist in a local accommodation. Further steps in the case were expected to follow standard criminal procedures in Chonburi province.
Case that escalated online
The investigation stemmed from an incident in which a South Korean tourist was reportedly first approached by a transgender woman and then robbed in a room in the Banglamung area. The case spread quickly across social media, where videos and warnings were widely shared among users.
Online discussions among holidaymakers fuelled new debates about security in Pattaya’s nightlife districts. The viral spread increased pressure on authorities to be seen responding visibly to the reports.
Attack on German tourist the same night
According to officials, the arrested woman was also said to have been part of a group of transgender women that allegedly attacked a German tourist at Pattaya Beach on the same night. Police stated that this second incident took place in the same general area as the reported robbery.
Investigators said they were still examining what precise role the suspect may have played in the beach incident. The extent of her alleged involvement remained under active investigation.
Transfer to investigators in Chonburi
After the arrest, the 20-year-old was taken into custody and transferred to Chonburi for further legal processing. She was handed over to investigators at Huai Yai Police Station, who were tasked with leading the case.
Officials noted that the proceedings would now continue under provincial jurisdiction. Further investigative steps were expected to clarify the connections between the two reported attacks.

The case, which went viral, strongly influenced how safe many visitors felt in tourist hotspots such as Pattaya. Social media posts and shared clips shaped perceptions more powerfully than official statistics or individual case reviews.
