BURIRAM, THAILAND – A 37-year-old woman in Buriram Province married two Austrian men on the same day, drawing widespread attention in her home community.
Unusual village wedding
The bride, Dujduan Ketsaro, known as Gig, and her two husbands, retired police officer Roman and currently serving officer Macky, said they planned to live together as a committed trio. The wedding took place on 28 February in a modest, traditional house ceremony in Prakhon Chai District, attended mainly by relatives, neighbours and close friends of the bride.
After the ritual bai sri su kwan blessings and the tying of wrists, the two grooms jumped arm in arm into a pond. The splash was meant to symbolically underline their friendship and shared happiness.
From music dreams to a patchwork family
Dujduan, once active as an independent singer-songwriter, said that neither her previous marriage to a Thai man, with whom she has three children, nor her music career had gone as she had hoped. To support her parents, three daughters and two grandchildren, she later worked in Pattaya, where she met Roman.
She had lived with Roman for about five years as if they were married before the trio arrangement began. Roman later brought his close friend Macky to Buriram, where he also fell in love with Dujduan.
Two friends, one joint decision
According to their own account, all three spoke openly about their feelings and looked for a solution together. After about a year in a relationship with Macky, they decided to marry as a threesome.
Each of the two Austrians pledged a dowry of 1 million baht, according to the bride. She said the goal was to build a stable shared life rather than compete as romantic rivals.
Family and village react calmly
Before making the decision, Dujduan asked her parents and children for advice. They accepted the trio marriage because both men took good care of her and the wider family and there was harmony in the household.
She acknowledged that not everyone would approve of a three-way marriage but stressed that personal happiness and mutual consent within the family were what mattered most to her. Her 61-year-old mother said she had witnessed her daughter’s long struggles and felt satisfied as long as she was now happy and reliably provided for, adding that the dowry was not important.
Mayor notes possible first for the province
The mayor of Saengthon, Thian-iew Lueangdechanurak, attended the ceremony and commented on its uniqueness. He said he had been to many weddings but had never seen a ceremony in which a Thai woman married two grooms at the same time, and that it could be the first case of its kind in the province.
He congratulated the trio and wished the spouses a lasting life together in love and mutual understanding. During the celebrations, the bride responded to the attention with humour and summed up the day in a joke.
“If you marry one man, the world does not remember – if you marry two at once, it does.”
said Dujduan, the bride.
