PATTAYA, THAILAND – Tourist police in Pattaya arrested a 20-year-old suspect on 26 February 2026 over the alleged robbery of a Chinese holidaymaker in his hotel room, in a case linked to other attacks on foreign visitors that authorities said threatened the resort’s image as a safe destination.
Raid in guesthouse near city center
Police said the arrest of Atikun Muangmungkhun, aged 20, took place at about 3:06 p.m. in room 502 of an accommodation in Soi Pattaya 13/2. Officers entered the premises under a court order.
The operation was based on an arrest warrant issued by the Pattaya Provincial Court, number J.114/2569 dated 25 February 2026. The warrant followed an evaluation of evidence related to the robbery of a Chinese tourist.
Background to the hotel room robbery
The incident that triggered the search for the suspect dated back to the early hours of 1 February 2026. A Chinese tourist reportedly fled naked from his hotel room to seek help, prompting hotel staff to alert the police.
According to the man, he had earlier met two transgender women on Pattaya Beach and invited them to his room. There, they allegedly threatened him, stole 10,000 baht in cash and an iPhone 15 Pro Max, and then fled the scene.
Investigators find five people in room
The operation was led by Pol. Lt. Col. Prapda Suksunthee, head of Tourist Police Sub-Division 4, Region 2. His unit was currently targeting groups in which, according to investigators, transgender women were said to exploit and rob tourists.
During the search of the room, officers encountered five transgender individuals, some of whom were still asleep. Based on the victim’s description, hotel CCTV footage and the recovered stolen iPhone, they identified the 20-year-old as the suspect, who then surrendered without resistance.
Links to other attacks on tourists
According to authorities, the group had allegedly already been linked to an attack and robbery of a German tourist on Pattaya Beach. Several suspected accomplices had been arrested in that case.
Investigators also referred to an ongoing case involving a robbery of a South Korean holidaymaker, in which members of the same group were considered suspects. They said the pattern indicated targeted actions against foreign visitors that could harm the city’s reputation as a safe beach resort.
Legal consequences and next steps
The arrested woman and the confiscated items were handed over to the responsible investigators. Officers were preparing further legal steps and continuing interrogations of the suspect and related parties.
She faced charges of joint night-time robbery and participation in an offense involving weapons or multiple persons to facilitate the taking and securing of stolen property. Under local criminal law, this was treated as a serious offense that could lead to significant penalties if proven in court.
