BANGKOK, THAILAND – A former soldier wanted for robbery causing serious injury died by suicide in a Min Buri police cell on 17 February 2026, shortly after his arrest under a court warrant.
Arrest under Min Buri court warrant
The suspect, former soldier Porn Wisanu, was arrested on 17 February 2026 on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by the Min Buri Criminal Court under case number J.273/2569. He was accused of robbery causing severe injuries after investigators from the Metropolitan Police located him and brought him to Min Buri police station.
Suicide in police custody
Following the arrest, the man was placed in a holding cell at Min Buri police station to await further legal proceedings. Officers later reported an urgent incident and found him hanging in the cell, after which authorities confirmed his death as a suicide while in police custody.
Serious allegations by ex-girlfriend
The case originated with a complaint from a 31-year-old woman who approached Police Lieutenant Colonel Thanakrit Chittra-areerat, secretary to the Minister of Social Development and Human Security. According to her report, her former boyfriend had beaten her brutally, robbed her and caused serious injuries, and had also blackmailed her by threatening to publish degrading images.
Identity abuse and loss of employment
The woman stated that the accused had misused her identity and sent a fake letter of resignation to her employer in her name. As a result, she lost her job, while the man, according to her account, continued to pressure her by threatening to release private photos.
Multiple complaints without progress
She reported that she had filed a total of four criminal complaints, including one in Min Buri and others at the Sutthisan and Rom Klao police stations in Bangkok. Despite these repeated complaints, the investigation initially did not move forward and the suspect remained at large for an extended period.
Media attention spurs renewed action
Only after the case received broad media attention did investigators review the files again and apply for the arrest warrant from the Min Buri Criminal Court. After it was issued, the ex-soldier was located, arrested and brought to Min Buri by a team led by Police Major General Chotiwat Lueangwilai, head of the investigation division of the Metropolitan Police.
Criminal record and case closure
A check of his criminal record showed that the man had previously come to police attention for child abduction and motorcycle thefts. With his death in the cell, the ongoing robbery case ended before it could reach an indictment or a full trial in court.
