SRI RACHA, THAILAND – A 71-year-old former accountant died after collapsing in front of his home and becoming trapped under his motor scooter in the Bang Phra subdistrict.
Sudden collapse in quiet residential lane
According to investigators, Suwit Tangloetpanya, a retired accountant, suddenly collapsed at around 9:30 a.m. on 19 February 2026 while moving his motor scooter in front of his house in a quiet Bang Phra neighborhood. When responders from the Sawang Prateep Sriracha Rescue Center arrived with officers from Sriracha Police Station, they found him lying on his back, with no pulse and no visible external injuries.
Scooter on his leg, no sign of violence
The black Honda Scoopy i scooter was lying across one of his legs, while his body rested freely on the ground in front of the house. Police stated that the absence of external injuries and any indication of an attack suggested no third-party involvement and that the death may have been caused by a medical emergency.
Asthma medication and serious pre-existing conditions
During a search of his clothing, officers found two bronchodilator inhalers commonly prescribed for asthma, as well as his wallet, identification documents and a small amount of cash. His daughter-in-law told police that Suwit had long suffered from high blood pressure and diabetes, and that he had been alone at home that morning because other family members had already left for work.
Neighbor discovers unresponsive body
A neighbor living opposite reported that he had returned home by car and initially only noticed the overturned scooter in front of the house, which struck him as unusual. When he went to check, he found the 71-year-old lying motionless on the ground, with open eyes and stiff arms suggesting apparent convulsions, and then alerted other residents, who immediately called emergency services.
Timeline before death and next steps
Following initial interviews and a reconstruction of events, police believed the collapse occurred shortly after the daughter-in-law left around 8:40 a.m., as the senior appeared to be pushing or repositioning his scooter. Investigators took photographs of the scene and questioned neighbors and relatives, before handing the body over to rescue personnel, who transported it to Laem Chabang Hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The incident also raised questions locally about support for elderly people who spend mornings alone while relatives are at work.
