NONTHABURI, THAILAND – Thai police arrested a suspected international drug courier in Bang Yai after seizing 7.37 kilograms of high-purity heroin allegedly destined for export.
Anonymous tip triggers covert surveillance
An anonymous tip on 4 February around 5 p.m. led officers to a Malaysian man reportedly dealing drugs near Wat Prang Luang Road. The informant provided a detailed description, including height, hairstyle, complexion and a distinctive tattoo on the suspect’s right arm. An investigation team from Metropolitan Police Division 1 launched a surveillance operation and began tracking the target.
Around 7:15 p.m., officers spotted the man eating noodles in front of a convenience shop and carefully documented his behaviour. The team continued to observe him as he moved through the area.
Stash at lamppost reveals drug cache
At about 8 p.m., police watched as the suspect walked into a side street and retrieved a hidden object near a lamppost. When he returned carrying a suspicious package, officers moved in, identified themselves and searched both the man and the item he was holding. Inside a bag, they discovered pure heroin, meticulously wrapped, with a total weight of exactly 7.37 kilograms.
The drugs and the man’s mobile phone were seized as evidence. The suspect was transferred to Bang Yai Police Station, where legal proceedings were initiated.
Suspect reportedly admits illegal entry
During questioning, the arrested man identified himself as Mr. Chan Yun Ting, nicknamed “A Ting”, and reportedly provided initial details of the operation. He stated that he had entered Thailand illegally and had been assigned to pass the narcotics to another foreign recipient. According to his account, that recipient was meant to smuggle the heroin out of Thailand.
“My task was to hand over the drugs to another foreigner, who would then smuggle the heroin out of Thailand.”
said Mr. Chan Yun Ting, suspected courier.
Police pursue masterminds behind network
The investigation, led by Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, moved into an intensive phase as officers sought to identify those who had hired the courier. Authorities focused on the unanswered questions of who was behind the operation, which route the heroin was intended to take and to which destination country it was to be exported. According to the report carried by Matichon, investigators expanded their work to trace the wider network linked to the planned drug export.
Further arrests were considered possible as the probe continued, with police aiming to uncover the structure of any international trafficking group involved.

The seizure of more than seven kilograms of high-purity heroin represented a substantial case, with a street value in the high six-figure euro range. Such a quantity was assessed as being destined for wholesale distribution and export rather than local street-level sales. The arrest disrupted a significant supply chain and highlighted Thailand’s role as a transit country for international drug cartels.
The case also underlined the impact of intelligence-led policing, as the combination of informant cooperation and targeted surveillance produced a major interdiction.
