PATTAYA, THAILAND – A 24-year-old suburban resident called for tougher official action after her car was allegedly deliberately scratched in a Pattaya neighborhood.
Early-morning damage discovered
The young woman, Parichat Somphar, had parked her black Mazda 2 with Bangkok license plate 1 ขฐ 6068 in front of a commercial building in the Khao Mai Kaeo area where she lived. On the morning of 16 January 2026, she said she found long, deep scratches on the right front door extending to the rear door. The damage clearly affected the vehicle’s paintwork, and there were no signs of an accident or accidental impact in the mixed commercial and residential area.
CCTV footage shows suspected homeless woman
After discovering the damage, Parichat reviewed recordings from a nearby CCTV camera. According to her account, the images clearly showed a woman believed to be homeless wearing a black T-shirt and shorts. The footage showed the woman at around 6:43 a.m. the same day running a hard object along the car and causing the scratches, and the victim stated there had been no prior contact between her and the suspect.
Victim calls for stronger official response
The 24-year-old said she could not assess the suspected offender’s motive. She stressed that she did not know the woman and had experienced no argument or conflict that might explain the act.
“I only want the responsible agencies and officers to step in and properly manage the situation with homeless people in the area,”

Her comments highlighted growing dissatisfaction among some residents with conditions on streets in and around Pattaya, where economic factors and inward migration had exerted social pressure for years.
Police secure evidence and search for suspect
Officers from Huai Yai Police Station went to the scene after the incident was reported, inspected the damaged vehicle and documented the traces. They also secured the CCTV footage as a central piece of evidence. The files were handed over to the responsible investigators and detective unit, which were working to identify the suspect seen in the images and locate her in order to initiate criminal proceedings.
Residents worried about further vandalism
Police initially did not say whether there were concrete leads on the woman’s identity. For local residents and property owners in Khao Mai Kaeo, concern remained over possible further cases of property damage in the area.
