BANGKOK, THAILAND – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul used National Children’s Day celebrations at Government House to call for a bilingual, globally minded generation of Thai youth.
Warm welcome for ‘Uncle Noo’ at Government House
Together with his wife Thananon Niramit, the prime minister was enthusiastically welcomed on Saturday as children called out his nickname “Uncle Noo” and hugged him. One boy thanked him for his determination and expressed a wish for another term in office, while Anutin smiled, signed autographs and posed for selfies. The atmosphere was relaxed and cordial as the seat of government turned into an adventure playground for the next generation.
Symbolic seat for disadvantaged children
A special experience awaited disadvantaged children and those with special needs, who were invited to sit in the prime minister’s chair. The symbolic photo was intended to create inspiration and lasting memories and to present Government House as open and accessible to all children.
“Children’s Day is a chance for young people to feel welcome in this house,”
said Anutin, prime minister.
Motto: Love Thailand, care for the world
The premier placed the day’s motto, “Love Thailand, care for the world,” at the centre of his speech, saying that love for one’s homeland was natural but the modern world demanded more. Thai children, he said, needed to understand global diversity, technology and norms in order to solve global problems in the future. He stressed that only with such understanding could the next generation respond to international challenges.
Bilingualism framed as key competence
Anutin set out a clear course by declaring that foreign language skills were the key to the future.
“I hope our children grow up with Thai and other languages and have a broader worldview,”
said the prime minister. Today’s youth, he added, would need to take part in future discussions on environmental issues, human rights and other global challenges.
Call to parents, teachers and media
The government leader called all adults to action, saying parents, teachers and media must work together. The goal, he said, was safe environments and accessible, high-quality education for every child.
“Confident, well-supported young people will become capable adults and drive Thailand’s progress,”
said Anutin in closing.
A festive day of music, laughter and learning
National Children’s Day at Government House ended with group photos, musical performances and exhibitions across the compound. Anutin wished all children a happy and safe day filled with learning and inspiration. The message, organisers said, was clear: Thailand was placing its hopes in a youth that is open to the world, articulate in more than one language and ready to take responsibility.
