KHON KAEN, THAILAND – A 34-year-old college lecturer from Chanthaburi was arrested in an abandoned house in Khon Kaen after police found methamphetamine and loaded firearms.
Neighbors’ call triggers major police response
Residents in the Mueang Khon Kaen district became suspicious when they noticed an unknown man moving around an abandoned property in their neighborhood. They immediately alerted the police, prompting a rapid response by a special team of narcotics officers and local police. The officers confronted the man and conducted a thorough search of the dilapidated house.
Meth tablets and two loaded pistols discovered
During the search, officers found four methamphetamine tablets, known locally as “Yaba,” inside the rundown building. Next to the drugs, they discovered a 9mm pistol with eight live rounds and a .380-caliber pistol loaded with nine rounds of ammunition. The arrested man, identified as Mr. Wutthichai, admitted at the scene that all the items belonged to him, and a drug test returned a positive result.
Lecturer’s visit to Khon Kaen under scrutiny
The 34-year-old was employed as a lecturer at a college in Chanthaburi province. According to initial information, he had allegedly travelled to Khon Kaen to visit family and then planned to meet a friend. Instead, he ended up in the deserted house, where he is accused of taking drugs. Police Colonel Yosawat Kaewsubthanynit confirmed the operation, stating:
“We intervened based on clear indications from the public.”

Multiple serious charges and ongoing investigation
Investigators prepared a series of charges, including drug possession, drug consumption and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. He was also accused of carrying the weapons in public without valid reason, with each charge potentially carrying lengthy prison terms. The lecturer was handed over to the investigation team, and prosecutorial steps were already under way.
Shock to education sector and worried families
The case caused an outcry, as an academic expected to serve as a role model was allegedly caught with hard drugs and illegal weapons. The affected college in Chanthaburi was reported to be in shock, with an immediate statement announced, while parents and students were deeply unsettled. One concerned father asked:
“How can someone who teaches our youth fall so far?”
said a concerned father.
Unanswered questions about motive and background
The man’s motives remained unclear, raising the question of whether this was a one-off lapse or part of a longer double life. Police announced they would closely examine his financial connections and entire background to determine whether links to the drug trade existed. One outcome appeared certain in the wake of the arrest: his career as a lecturer was likely over, and his next classroom could be a prison cell.
