UDON THANI, THAILAND – What first appeared to be a fatal alcohol accident under a rural bridge turned into a homicide case after phone video from villagers forced a brother to confess.
Body found under bridge in Saeng Khom
On the morning of 8 January 2026, a passer-by discovered the body of 52-year-old Jaroon beneath the Huai Bo Bridge in Saeng Khom district. A bottle of white liquor lay next to the deceased, leading police to initially assume he had died in a fall while intoxicated. Relatives told officers that Jaroon had mental health issues and was a heavy drinker, seemingly confirming the theory of an alcohol-related accident.
Village video challenges accident theory
Residents of Non Suksa Village handed police a mobile phone video the following day, showing what investigators described as a shocking scene. In the footage, 57-year-old Paisan, the victim’s older brother, was seen harassing and beating Jaroon, clearly contradicting the initial assumption of an accidental fall. Officers immediately summoned Paisan for questioning, where he broke down under the weight of the evidence and confessed.
Confession: push from the bridge after drinking
During interrogation, Paisan recounted events on 4 January, saying the brothers had argued and been drinking together before riding a motorcycle. He said he stopped at the bridge, where his brother sat on the railing, and in a sudden impulse he pushed him in the chest. Jaroon fell into the water below the bridge.
“I did not want to kill him, I was drunk.”

From disturbing remark to manslaughter charge
After the incident, Paisan returned to relatives and made a disturbing statement that he had killed his brother and thrown him from the bridge. This admission, combined with the incriminating video, left police with no alternative but to pursue a manslaughter charge. Lieutenant Thanin Inkong, deputy police chief of Saeng Khom, confirmed the confession and that criminal proceedings had begun.
Village shaken by hidden family violence
The case deeply affected the close-knit community in Udon Thani, where a family dispute fueled by alcohol escalated into deadly violence. Villagers who found and shared the video said they were horrified, not realizing at first that they had uncovered a serious crime. They now live with the knowledge that a violent offence in their midst nearly went unnoticed.
Ongoing investigation and role of digital evidence
Police were reviewing all available evidence and waiting for the final forensic report, which was expected to confirm the precise sequence of events and cause of death. Paisan remained in police custody, facing the prospect of a lengthy prison sentence if convicted. Investigators said the case underlined how crucial public vigilance and digital recordings had become, noting that without the phone video, Jaroon would likely have been classified as an accident victim and his brother would have remained free.
